Someting New for Me about PR

I hope it is not too late to post my first blog about Public Relations. Having listened to the introduction lecture and read some materials about PR provided by Ms James, I' d say that my previous acknowlegement about this career has been changed profoundly.

Before that I thought doing PR is just to arrenge some events or activities for the clients (companies or some other organizations) out of especially commercial reasons. As for the people who does PR should live a fantastic life, party all the time, meeting with high ranked figures, etc, a very much typical misunderstanding of this career that Ms James exemplified in the class. In the except from public relatitons by M. James which I thought delivered a more brief but concise overview of almost every aspect of this particular field. I started to rethink it and i realized that it is definitely more than what I thought it should be.

As a Chinese overseas student, language is probably the biggest barrier ahead of me. I saw that among all the requirments listed about how to be a good public relations practioner, ability to write and speak well is always the first and foremost requirment. For this reason I think to create this blog is a quite useful way to not only improve my english proficiency as well as a development of a critical thinking.

Yes, I do agree that in local and Australian contexts, that a PR practitioner needs to have the ability to communicate well. But furthermore, I believe that it is more important to have the right attitute in order to face the press and other people with certain amount of social status. Being a PR practitioner is not only about speaking and writing, I feel it is much more than that.

So Peipei, do not despair. I know for a fact that taking this course can not only improve your english proficiency, but also equip you with a lifelong skill. One that you can use also, in Chinese or other languages.

Yeah, you are right, pr is more than that and maybe i am not good at the language part, like you said the theories will still be quite useful and maybe i can benefit from that for a lifetime. Anyway thanks for your comment and encouragement.

I was like enlighten by your opinion of holding the right attitute in order to face the press and the other people. For me this is also the very part i need to work on.

Well, better late than never. Also, one thing that we should take note is with the expansion of china's thriving economy, more and more businesses are flocking over to have a piece of the pie. As a chinese, with high proficiency in the mandarin language, you can easily form a bridge for the western culture as some of us would be hard pressed to do. In Singapore, it is quite known that our standard of mandarin has declined.
